You’ll gain knowledge of the various specialisations so you’ll be able to comfortably use them in your working practice. Mark Long is an artist & photographer, his knowledge of the darkroom started with a re-discovery of the Morden-Cage technique whilst at Edinburgh University. Since then his personal work has been heavily influenced by the science behind darkroom practice and he continues to research and evolve these practices for contemporary use. There are only four places per day.

12pm – 5pm / 18th May

A one day intensive course teaching:

1: Solarisation – Exposing a partially developed photograph to light, before continuing processing, creating halo-like effects often seen in the work of Man Ray & Francis Bruguiere.

2: Selective Development – abstract your imagery using powdered developer, brushes and sprays.

3: Lith Printing – Using special Lith developers and exposure techniques. Lith prints have strong shadows balanced out with delicate, warm highlights. Prints can be worked on to emphasise the particular aspects of lith printing that you enjoy. Its a very beautiful way of printing, very under used in modern darkroom practice.

Working with your choice of images you will gain an in-depth learning of all these processes.
